Antique Furniture & Clock Restoration
Sympathetic restoration and conservation of furniture and clocks
All repairs are done using correct traditional methods and, wherever possible, old and matching timbers and veneers from stock collected over many years.
Bespoke furniture making, chair making, built in furniture.
As well as the traditional restoration of period items we offer many cabinet making services.
Over the years we found that many people have needed their sets of dining chairs adding to rather than having to replace with a bigger set. We can make the chairs and polish to match very effectively as the photos hopefully show.
Sometimes a client may have spent ages looking for a particular piece of furniture to fit in a certain place but either cannot find it or cost prevents them from buying it. We can design and build a replica item and age and polish to suite their needs and fit in with their other antiques.
We can also build built-in furniture to your requirements in wood or MDF to be painted.
Restoration and Refinishing of Interior Woodwork
Solid floor, staircase, panelling repairs
Restoring your interior woodwork can transform your home and give it the real 'wow' factor. So often period features are considered too troublesome and are covered over with paint or carpets, or worse still, completely removed.
Whatever style of house you have and whatever type of decor you are aiming for nothing looks better than real wood in all its glory. We don't sand as that will remove all the patination and age of the wood instead we will revive or, if necessary, strip and refinish using whatever type of polish, wax or oil is best suited.
Panelling, staircases and floors will look amazing once the work has been completed.
In many cases, all that is needed on period panelled walls is a good waxing. Never allow a company or indeed yourself to sand and brush on a colour varnish. There are too many companies with no knowledge or experience that will do a 'quick fix' but it will never look good and will not last.
Services we offer
From small scratches and repairs, re waxing or repolishing to complete rebuilds or something made to order, the list of what we can do is long so if in doubt please just ask. Check out more information and photos of some of our services below.
More about Gavin
In 1985 Gavin started his career in antique restoration at his father's firm based in Reigate, Surrey. He spent 6 years there building up his knowledge and skills as a cabinet maker and polisher working mainly for top London dealers and then moved on to a larger firm in Dorking to gain more experience and training.
In 1994 he took the plunge and set up his own business, soon establishing a good reputation in the area and further afield which saw the business flourish. He has worked for many of the country's most highly regarded dealers as well as private collectors in this country and abroad. He has also had the privilege of working in some of the finest buildings, such as Kensington Palace, conserving and restoring the interiors.
He is dedicated in his belief that we are only temporary carers of the treasures around us, be it furniture or buildings, and that it is our duty to preserve and protect them for future generations. As such, every item that he works on is treated with the same care and attention to detail that they deserve, using the correct and proper methods.
